The 2010 MTV-VMA’s: A Total FLOP!

Last night was a DUDD! The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards had to be by far the WORST show in years! Completely uneventful. Don’t get me wrong, there were some decent performances, but that about it- just decent- AT BEST!  Kicking off the show was a moving performance by Eminem featuring Rihanna, followed by a rousing performance “tribute” to Lady Gaga, by insane hostess for the night Chelsea Handler. But I felt as though as the show progressed, Chelsea lost her steam & was just not the rip-roaring comic relief we’d expect her to be. Oh well, moving on. There was a cutsie wootsie performance from kid sensation Justin Bieber. Futuristic performance by Usher, who just seemed outta breath & sweating like a crack head on the first of the month. Poor Usher, I Remember the days when he could do it all! For the first time tonight I got a look at a group called Florence & The Machine performed with a full stage set & all, a choir & dancers. They were eclectic & entertaining. Travis McCoy came through with what started out as a raw, honest performance, but was cut short for a N.E.R.D ft. Ciara performance.

Now here we go. Taylor Swift‘s did a joint called “Speak Now,”  which was all about her understanding & analyzing & forgiving the confused mess which she perceived to be Kanye West! Didn’t appreciate it at all. Folks say Kanye used his two hour twitter apology for his own personal album promotion Saturday before last. However, it seemed to me that Taylor used her “Forgiveness” to elevate this otherwise lackluster performance.  Oh well, On To The Next One!  Mary J. Blige had it on SMASH when she accompanied Drake & a fake piano playing Swizz Beats for “You Fancy Huh.” B.O.B, bouncin’ on the stage like he had a roach infestation to kill. And Jason Derulo sang a song.  Linkin Park performed some high energy madness. They’re an interesting bunch.

As far as awards are concerned, the big WINNER of the night was Lady Gaga, who is an EXCEPTIONAL talent! This time last year she made me nervous. Today, I NEED her in my life. Gaga won BIG but it was DEFINITELY Kanye West’s night. He, along w/Pusha T of the Clipse, performed a track from his upcoming CD called ‘Runaway.” Kanye did what he had to do & left it all right there on the stage. By far Ye was the BEST performance of the night. Too bad we had to sit through 2.5 hrs. of CRAP before we’d see it!
