Montel Williams arrived in a chauffer-driven GMC Denali and cried poverty at a hearing Friday in his bitter custody battle over the son and daughter who call him a virtual stranger. Oh Wurd, Montel!? WURD!!!???? The Emmy-winning talk show host told a Connecticut judge that he can’t pay $7,500 in fees requested by his kids’ attorney because he lost his radio show when Air America folded in January.
“Mr. Williams’ financial situation is extremely perilous,” his attorney Harry Nicolay told Judge Marylouise Schofield in Fairfield County Superior Court. Williams’ heartbroken teens Montel II, 16, and Wyntergrace, 15, came forward in January to say their dad pays his $18,700 a month in child support but has all but abandoned them emotionally. “One can only imagine what it’s like for these children to be in a war for two thirds of their lives,” the teens’ attorney Arnold Rutkin told the judge. Another hearing was set for March 15.
Williams, 53, who speaks openly about how his multiple sclerosis causes debilitating pain and depression, also writes motivational memoirs and hawks infomercial products under the brand “Living Well.”
